keep calm and read my blog

20.7.13

Hello! I am really excited to share this post with you today. However, I must confess, it's not the most interesting of posts .... buuuuut don't worry. I make up for it at the end. Promise. So keep calm and read my blog.

Whether you follow my Instagram feed, are a friend that I constantly pressure to sign up for Instagram, or you read my blog post about my Instagram scientific experiment,it's safe to bet that you know I am STILL obsessed with Instagram. One of the (many) things I quite like about it is its lack of depth. That may sound sarcastic, but it's true. I like skimming over pictures and feeling like I know what's going on in the lives of my insta-friends. I like it a lot more than Facebook. Facebook is too deep for me (okay, that was a tad sarcastic). I also really like all of the photos and even the videos have grown on me (more so now that I figured out how to turn auto-play off). And nope, it doesn't bother me that you can "tag" people now.

My Insta-buddy "_easytiger" invited me to join in on Project 365 about 5 months ago. Thank you for that.
The rules are:
  1. one instagram photo per day
  2. you can miss a maximum of three days in a row (if you miss a day you make it up by posting two the following day)
  3. the photos cannot be duplicated
  4. the photos must be taken with a cell phone

Personally I like the challenge and I like looking for something to share about my day. Oh and by the way, did you see that super cute, pink, watercolour, Instagram social media button on the top right area of my blog? My good friend, Sarah, made that for me!! In fact, she is responsible for the new look of my blog. Not only did she help me with the design (which is huge because I am extremely indecisive), but once we knew how we wanted it to look, she completely customized the entire thing! She is amazing and was very generous with both her brain and her time. I am so appreciative. Don't you just love the new look?? I feel so pro. I'd really really like to hear what you think of it.

But I digress... Another thing that I am keen about on Instagram are the knit-a-longs. What a great way to connect as a community. For some reason none of my non-virtual friends knit... what's up with that, friends? I am already a part of Ravelry - an online knitting community. If you are a knitter or crocheter I strongly urge you to sign up for this site. It is amazing and has a ton of helpful resources and FREE patterns! One of the groups I am a member of in Ravelry is called "Instagram Along-ers." That's where I have participated in two knit-alongs. Basically someone picks a pattern and a deadline and we all knit the chosen project and post pictures on Instagram along the way. Here are the zombie viXen fingerless gloves by Susan Claudino. This is not something I would normally select as a project, so the group is definitely motivating and expanding my knitting horizons. These were tough to make. I literally knit using a toothpick to do the fancy cable stitches across the top.

The second Instagram Along-ers project I knit was the Colorblock Shawl by Jennifer Pfeiffer. My understanding is that this is her first published pattern! That's so awesome. I hope to publish my own designs some day. As mentioned above I want to make this post worth your read so here goes...

It's a GIVEAWAY! Yay! In celebration of my brand new snazzy blog, I decided to give away this gorgeous, hand-knit-by-yours-truly, Colorblock Shawl to one lucky blog reader.

Feeling lucky? All you need to do is post one comment. If you are posting anonymously please be sure to include your name in the comment section. I will randomly select one name from the comment list on Wednesday July 31st. This is a special day for me because I start Cardiac Rehabilitation so it will feel good to celebrate by choosing a winner. Not your style? No problem - it makes a great gift! And if you don't feel like entering, just enter anyway *shakes fist*. It would also mean a lot to me to hear what you think of the new layout. Thanks for reading! Good luck!

  10. Jessie! Fantastic layout! Shout out to Sarah on that one. It's warm, inviting, and modern- so YOU! I am also suddenly inspired to knit, or find virtual friends! My blog is overdue for some keystrokes as well, so THANK YOU for the motivation!

PS. Lilly has an unfair advantage in this give-away. It probably fits her already... pff.
